There are lots of things Moms think about when pondering over what to get their kids for Christmas. Particularly in the North of Scotland and around Inverness, we commonly think of football jackets or celebrating with the Tang Soo Do or other competitive sporting gift.
After the usual sports gifts, we also like to give something about whatever other activity each child is interested in that year. For example, acting can be a little challenging, but musical Christmas gifts are fun for my daughter who plays the trumpet, and we gave my son one year a small replica of the piano he plays. Whatever you do, try and get the personalized variety. It's so much fun putting them up every year, and they make great memories when they get older. My son is now 17, and it's just a joy for my husband and I to remember his first piano recital, the year he won his next highest belt in karate, or the time he scored a winning goal in football. I think the next real challenge is going to be finding ornaments for teens. As children get older, their interests change. The activities become less physical and more intellectual. How does one find something that represents -- she likes to read -- for example? Or: he's really into computer programming? Teen ornaments are going to be a challenge, and I really do want to have something for each of my three children until they day they leave home. What exactly would a young adult ornament be? Ugh, they grow up too fast! The good news is, I don't have to worry about that much now, I'm having too much fun finding personalized ornaments for kids.
