Ornaments as Personalized Christmas Memories

Let’s be honest… there is really nothing enjoyable about Christmas shopping. It's an experience most would gladly fore go if they didn’t fear reprisals from friends and family members. But fortunately these days there are other shopping options.

The internet lets anyone on earth find the gifts they want at the price they want with a minimum of fuss and no long lines. The only problem is that as internet shopping grows evermore popular, choosing the right gift can be just as difficult as in the store, perhaps even more so. After all, when you can locate anything you want, the shear number of options can be overwhelming.

In this brief article we are going to discuss a popular new online gift option — the Christmas Personalized Ornaments . These gifts can be found on a number of reputable websites and are often actually less expensive when purchased online, where shoppers typically have thousands of ornaments to choose from. For instance, if you are shopping for someone who is interested in sports, you can undoubtedly find an ornament that includes their favorite sport. (more...)

Christopher Radko Christmas Ornaments

Find the perfect gift for he or she who already has everything. Seriously, we cataloged the kinds of gifts we'd been given over the last 10 Christmases because we dutifully write thank-you notes. And after going over the notebook, we realized there were 2 kinds of most appreciated gifts.

The first, almost always safe gift, is food. Ah, the gift of food. Not a chunk of meat, nor some everyday foodstuff. Rather, we've truly enjoyed artesanal holiday breads, festive Chrimstmas cheeses or dips, and the like. These kinds of consumable gifts, at least the better ones, really bring a quality of joy and celebration to the family gathering. We're always grateful.

The second category is totally the opposite: it's not at all consumable and lasts essentially forever. And that is the Christopher Radko Christmas Ornaments we've enjoyed, each one adding to the special ornament collection, yet each one creating a unique memory from a dear and cherished friend. We may very well be turning over a new leaf this year, because we don't want to give out of obligation, we want to create memorable Christmas gifts that our friends will actually enjoy. (more...)

Sports Christmas Ornaments

There just isn't anything like coming home from a winning game, having seen your teen run her guts out, or your son throw the winning pass, or your youngest swim the fastest time. Several years ago, I was looking for some way their father and I could really commemorate their accomplishments. It is always wonderful to win a trophy, but it is the smaller little accomplishments along the way that need to be encouraged and validated.

I know everyone knows I love Christmas. But seriously, I don't know why it had never occured to me to give them sports Christmas ornaments as a reward for some really special accomplishment. I wanted to share with you a very special place above where you can find all manner of football ornaments, soccer ornaments, swimming ornaments and many more. If the kid goes out for gymnastics--you've got it. Hockey? No problem. Seriously, they've got it all.

One of the most fun things has been getting personalized sports ornaments with the team name and a particular opponent or score. So consider sports Christmas ornaments as great Christmas gifts this year. (more...)

First Christmas Ornaments

OK, one more note here about Christmas decorations. This one is closest and dearest to my heart. My husband rails against Hallmark and those other card companies. It's not that they're doing a bad thing, producing a bad product, or in any way denigrating the various holidays. But now that cards cost as much as a meal and there are starving humans on the planet, we feel we can make 10 donations a year in lieu of buying each other Christmas cards and end up feeding 20 or more meals to hungry children.

What do we do for each other instead? The idea came out of humility and caring for others, and ended up giving each of us something back we never could have imagined. Going on 10 years now, we have 10 ornaments that remind us of our love for each other. We will give first Christmas ornaments to some very special babies this year, and give an additional one to ourselves with the baby's name. Our tree is now decorated with these very special first Christmas ornaments, each one unique and special, each one reminding us of a special child, as well as our love for each other.

Consider a baby's first Christmas ornament for your own kids, your extended family, or a needy kid. The nice thing is that whomever the child is, they will always have that first Christmas ornament. It's something that they can look back on and remember their entrance into this world, the very special time of birth and early childhood. (more...)

Family Christmas Ornament Decor

I seem to have made little sections amongst all the Christmas ornaments along the lines of meaning and purpose this year. As my husband and I took everything out of the attic, for reasons not known to me, we did not schedule a date to put everything up. We usually do it on a Saturday with some great pick-up food like brie, and fresh nuts, fabulous pate, and a great red wine. It's a special time my husband and I love to share with each other.

This year, I found myself laying everything out on several tables, separating the kid things, from romantic ornaments, from baby memorability, and then finally I realized we had another special kind of ornament.

We hadn't ever really been purposeful about collecting them or doing one each year, but I found that we had a family personalized Christmas ornaments for nearly every year since my first baby was born. There are family ornaments with just the three of us -- 2 of them to be exact. Then, we had our son. We missed a year, but then we have 4 family Christmas ornaments with the 4 of us. And then we have 1 Christmas family ornament with the 5 of us. Then 2 years passed and we forgot, I guess. (more...)

Glass Christmas Ornament Decorations

I want to write today about the differences in quality we see across all kinds of Christmas decorations. I have lots of people ask about resin -- what exactly is resin? Resin is pretty much on the bottom of the scale in terms of mass production. Resin can actually be of extremely detailed sculpting or very plain and cheap. It's a petroleum-based product, so it has its own overhead cost, but it's not labor intensive to use as a base material. It is similar to but chemically different from plastic. In its natural state, it's off-white in color, and is a liquid which hardens inside a mold giving great detail. But today I really want to talk about the higher-end of the market: the quintessential glass ornament.

When we think of glass ornaments, we think of artisans, hand blown glass, a kiln for heating and making the glass molten. We think of carefully sculpted forms and their negative impression molds. We think of art studios and crafts people from yesteryear. The glass Christmas ornament puts old world artistry within the reach of everyman. It's artwork on the go, at the store level, outside of the haughty galleries and into the hands of anyone with a few shillings and the heart to dream of finer things. Glass, like resin, can be blown into almost any shape, though it lacks the hard edges for which resin is so popular. The lines in glass are typical of its nature - flowing and beautiful. There's something precious about these ornaments. Our collection is usually held in the highest esteem above all else, treasured like the finery that it is, yet attainable enough to be handled and enjoyed in everyday life. You can tell: I love glass Christmas ornaments.

The US is a major consumer, and as such, if you ship them to the UK, you'll spend anywhere from 10 pounds up to 90 or more, depending upon the size, and the intricacy of the decorations. But for 10-20 pounds, you just can't beat an absolutely gorgeous Christmas decoration. (more...)

Christmas in Scotland for Kids

There are lots of things Moms think about when pondering over what to get their kids for Christmas. Particularly in the North of Scotland and around Inverness, we commonly think of football jackets or celebrating with the Tang Soo Do or other competitive sporting gift.

After the usual sports gifts, we also like to give something about whatever other activity each child is interested in that year. For example, acting can be a little challenging, but musical Christmas gifts are fun for my daughter who plays the trumpet, and we gave my son one year a small replica of the piano he plays. Each of these were Christmas ornaments, and we personalized each with their name and the year. I really love the Christmas ornaments for kids -- twice as fun as buying my own for just decorations around the home. And each year, I know whatever kids ornaments I find, they'll be unique and different. There's always a sense of urgency and joy, wondering what I'm going to give them that particular year.

You might consider sports ornaments for kids, musical instruments ornaments for kids, or even some TV characters or something from the satellite like Sesame Street for the younger ones. Whatever you do, try and get the personalized variety. It's so much fun putting them up every year, and they make great memories when they get older. My son is now 17, and it's just a joy for my husband and I to remember his first piano recital, the year he won his next highest belt in karate, or the time he scored a winning goal in football. Though they call it "soccer" across the pond, you can find some good football kids Christmas ornaments and all sorts of things to help your children celebrate the season. (more...)

Free Shipping Christmas Ornaments

I promised, and now I'm gonna deliver. I kept running into free shipping on Christmas ornaments if you buy 5 or 6 ornaments, usually already over-priced to accommodate the "free" shipping. In some cases, the price was good, but the penmanship was quickied, the kind where, when you receive the order, you feel you could have done a better job yourself.

I remember receiving an order a couple of years ago, and I was so disgusted. They offered to replace the personalized ornament, but stipulated that I had to be satisfied with this next one, and even promised that it would look the exact same way. Ah-hem! Why would I want a duplicate ornament personalized in the same poor penmanship? So I got smart. I went to my local hardware store and bought a cheap little bottle of acetone. I took a couple of cotton swabs, dipped it into the acetone, and was within seconds able to wipe off the horrible writing. I then gave the ornament to my 14-year-old daughter and voila! It looked great. One problem: it's not so much fun giving a gift to your daughter that she has to personalize herself! So, ever since, I've stayed with the higher end, nicer websites, while also looking for bargains. Here it is: Free Shipping Personalized Christmas Ornaments on any order more than 1 ornament. The pricing is not discounted, but it's also not inflated. It's average. The good news is the free shipping for 2 or more personalized ornaments.

I bought from them for the first time last year. What I liked was the very clear personalization, and the fact that I could find a few ornaments I needed. I didn't buy every Christmas ornament I needed from them, but I was able to get a good deal on what I bought. (more...)

Glass Ornaments Shops

The Christmas season is a terrible time to buy gifts since the shops are impossibly crowded and products sell out within seconds of arriving on the shelves. Intelligent gift givers will either want to do their shopping early, and keep a box full of presents in the house for six months before the holiday, or do their shopping online, from the comfort of their own homes.

There are numerous benefits to using the internet to buy gifts, not least of which is the fact that you do not have to leave the house. This is one reason why I like Glass Ornaments . Internet shoppers will find they have access too to a variety of discounts and sales of which those visiting the High Street cannot take advantage.

In addition, there is invariably more choice at the fingertips of the internet shopper. As well a range of products available within your home country, you have access to products from overseas as well. The internet thus offers an even greater variety of gifts from which to choose, and allows you to purchase something specialised and unique for your loved ones. (more...)

Christmas Sleigh

I love to share resources when I find them, so I thought I'd weigh in on a few. A girlfriend of mine is equally eager and interested in everything Christmas and holiday, so I thought I'd share with my readers her site: Christmas Sleigh Her blog is similar and yet also different. She includes quick links to resources I wouldn't normally investigate. You'll find things like overstock and special discounts, places like "The Dump", and loads of coupons and free shipping offers.

You'll also find a plethora of listings for stores that sell the usual Christmas gifts and decor merchandise yet specialize in special offers.

Then she has a whole section of mid-range stores that are neither very cheap, nor highly expensive when it comes to decorating for Christmas. (more...)

Christmas Wrapping

The nightmare of wrapping millions of presents is usually reserved only for Christmas. Sure you will have to wrap a few presents during the year for birthdays, anniversaries or baby showers, but the bulk of your yearly gift wrapping happens before Christmas.

This might have been why they invented Stocking Fillers, because unlike the presents that get lovingly displayed beneath the Christmas tree, stocking fillers, as the name suggests, get put into stockings. This means that though you might prefer to wrap them, the wrapping will not be exposed for all to see, and so it is easier to get away with a skew corner, or a torn edge.

This all of course depends on who the stocking belongs to. No matter what kind of present you are wrapping there are some basic guidelines. (more...)
